Tata Cars IndiaTata Motors – Moving India

Tata Motors has its manufacturing base in Jamshedpur, Lucknow, Pune and Singur. It began with locomotive manufacturing unit and later expanded for commercial vehicles. Tata Motors has collaborated with Cummins as well a host of other major players of the automobile sector. Tata Indica was India’s first fully indigenous passenger car that soon gave the ruling market leader a run for its money. The newly developed Nano is said to be the least expensive car (about less than US $ 2500) in the world to manufacture. Its launch into the market is widely awaited.

Tata Safari is the first Indian SUV mostly designed, developed and manufactured in India. Originally launched in 1998 with a 1948 CC turbo diesel engine (still available as the base model) lifted from Tata 407 truck, it went on to have 3 liter Direct Injection turbo diesel engine. Now it has been outfitted with a more modern Variable Turbine Turbo - direct Injection diesel engine which delivers 140 BHP compared with the 90 BHP the old mill produced.

Ratan Tata, the venerable Icon of Indian Business, injected healthy competition when Indian Automobile Industry was languishing. He was intrumental in many technical innovations in the automobile sector. His Tata Ace, which signalled his foray into the mini segment, uses half of the same engine block serving the Indica - thus minimizing manufacturing costs. You can expect positive surprises from Ratan Tata and his company any time.
